Shadow Money Taints York County House Race D66

Mailers and texts have been coming in left and right in the Fort Mill and Tega Cay area. With the primaries around the corner, things are heating up politically. South Carolina House District 66 is no exception.

Many in the district are accusing one candidate of hiding behind dark money since her campaign management company, Starboard Communications, has been linked to The Palmetto Truth Project, and also manages the SC House Republican Caucus.Michele Branning, a current Fort Mill School Board Trustee, has put her name down on the ballot to run for the District 66 House Seat. She has spent approximately $15,323.83 with Starboard Communications since May 1, 2024. It has been revealed in a recent FitsNews article that Starboard Communications has been linked to the Palmetto Truth Project, who have been sending out libelous text messages attacking Branning's opponent, Jackie Terribile.

Activists across the state and country such as Palmetto Gun Rights and National Association for Gun Rights have come out against The Palmetto Truth Project.

Even U.S. House Representative Ralph Norman has come out against the special interest groups, and said, “It’s outrageous what these dark money groups are saying about Jackie Terribile. You should consider the source. They’re a bunch of liberals who hate conservatives and will do whatever they can to disrupt our Republican Primaries and support their liberal candidates. Make no mistake. Jackie is THE conservative Republican in this race. Show these liberal special interests that this dirty politics has no place in our primaries. by supporting and VOTING for Jackie Terribile for State House.”

According to Open Corporates, the Registered Agent for the Palmetto Truth Project is Alexender Craven, a Democratic politician in Clarendon County, SC. Why is the SC House Republican Caucus and Michele Branning using a campaign management company that also manages the Palmetto Truth Project's Website?

The Lantern has reached out to Michele Branning for comment regarding Starboard Communications and the Palmetto Truth Project. We will update this article when we receive a comment.
